If Tuscany wine country is out of your travel programme, take
a wine tour in the
Castelli Romano Hills surrounding Rome.
About 12 kilometres south east of Rome are the Alban Hills,
a mountainous outcrop of volcanic origin in the shape of a
horse-shoe.
The Popes and noble families built castles and villas on the
outer edge
of this enormous crater, famous for it's beautiful landscape
and sparkling volcanic lakes.
Visit Grottaferrata, Albano, Ariccia, Marino, Genzano or the
town of Frascatti,
famed for it's wine and splendid Villas. Taste wine in a cantina,
where you can follow the technique of wine from 'the grape
to the bottle'.
Depending on how much time is dedicated to WINE, one can also
visit
Castle Gandolfo, the summer residence of the Pope, considered
part of
The Vatican.
Stop for a drink on the banks of the volcanic lake, an ideal
place for photographs!
Drive to the village of Nemi and taste the wild strawbwrries
if it is strawberry season!
